Suppose you have a Delphi application that access data using the Borland Database Engine (BDE) and you wish to deploy it on a user's client computer. If you compile the project without runtime packages and no BDE support is required, then merely copying the EXE file on the target computer is usually enough.
Now installing BDE on a client computer is performed as follows :
- Locate the file
bdeinst.cab
located inC:Program FilesCommon FilesBorland SharedBDE
. - Open it using winZip or something equivalant.
- The .cab file contains only one file BDEINST.DLL. Extract this to the users client computer.
- Use the command
regsvr32.exe bdeinst.dll
from the command prompt to perform the installation. - Run your application
Borland Database engine on Windows 10 (1703) Since Win10pro (1606) Borland Database Engine worked fine. I installed Win10pro build 1703 and when i run Database Desktop, it open saying that private and working dirs are invalid or undefined (administrator mode) and then, clicking OK, just closes. In my Delphi10 BDE is installed and runs ok.
BDE un-installation can be performed by folloowing these steps :
- Delete the folder containing BDE data
- Delete the BDEADMIN.CPL file in the WiindowsSystem folder, in order to get rid of the control file applet
- Use regedit in order to delete the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareBorlandBDEAdmin
- Next locate
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareBorland
and delete the subkeysBLW32
,Borland Shared
andDatabase engine
. - Reboot your machine
Note : Having said all that I would like to give you an extract from the file bdedeploy.txt located at the BDE installation directory.

OK I know this has been deprecated, and bde is older than Moses, but we have some legacy applications that have not been migrated still using bde.
Has anyone been successfull in installing bde WITH the interbase sql links fully configured for windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)?
I have found a many different posts and executables, but nothing conclusive.
Bde Install Windows 7 64 Bit
Thanks

I know that this is way old but BDE 5.2.0.2 works on Windows 7 without issues.Just point to the DB with LocalHost:DBPATH
